NIGERIA RELATIONSHIP: Why You Shouldn't Rely on Foreign Books in Handling Your Relationship

A lot of people in Nigeria depend on the information they acquire from books, especially ones authored by foreign people to help them properly manage their relationships forgetting that these books were originally written in accordance to the ways of life and social perceptions of the people who live in the society of the author. Across the world, there are different cultures and traditions most of which were passed on from past generations and have a strong hold on the people, making it very difficult to detach someone from their very own way of life.
It is clear and we have seen in one way or the other that the white man's way of life is different from the Asian man's way of life which is different from the African man's way of life and so on. Trying to use a certain way of life which is not supported or fully supported in a given area to address an issue in that area can be a very tedious thing to do.
Now, back to the relationship issue. Nigeria is a developing nation and everyone is focusing on how to swim against the ocean waves to succeed in life, which means that there might not be enough time for leisure, and also, the level of adrenaline generated from working so hard can cause some degree of aggression resulting from stress hormones. This could result in a reduction in the level of emotions and time dedicated to the relationship by both parties.
A typical Nigerian relationship is not as romantic as the one in the USA and many other countries in the world, but that doesn't necessarily say we don't enjoy our supposedly less romantic relationships because most of us conceive romance as different from the general perception. Reading the relationship based books authored by any one of those other countries might make thing really worse with this whole situation.
Also, Nigeria is a nation with one of the most ethnically diverse population having over 300 tribes. This alone should make one realize the complexity in the general way of life of Nigeria looking at us as one nation and one people. Even within Nigeria, we still haven't fully comprehended and accepted the cultures of one another much less that of other countries.
Our problem in Nigeria is that we don't value our own books as much as the foreign ones and the only way to deal with our relationship issues is to study our environment and make documentations on it with respect to how the people understand relationships. I'm not saying that other books are not good as they provide some vital information which are not culture biased, but they don't give you the main thing you're looking for. In my next writing on an issue related to this topic, I'll stress on how to deal with Nigerian women and men in terms on relationship. Thank you.
